Hoy es blue Monday. ¿Y qué es eso? Pues de acuerdo con un estudio, es el día mas triste del año. ¿Y qué tiene que ver el azul? Pues que blue también significa triste. Así que en el blog de hoy de English 4 Future vamos a ver algunos idioms relacionado con los colores.
–To see red: verlo todo rojo y estar muy enfadado.
“He was so angry that he saw red”
–Green with envy: estar verde de la envidia.
“The kid saw the new girl’s toy and he was green with envy.”
–To feel blue: sentirse triste. También podemos usar “to have the blues”
“It’s Monday and she is feeling a bit blue”
–Yellow-bellied: ser cobarde o no atreverse a algo.
“The Friends called him yellow-bellied for not daring to jump from the bridge”
–Tickled Pink: estar muy contento o alegre por algo.
“We are tickled pink that our youngest daughter is getting married in June”
–Golden opportunity: una oportunidad de oro.
“Please, don’t miss this golden opportunity and take the job”
-Black sheep: la oveja negra, alguien que es muy rebelde o no tan querido por su familia.
“My uncle is the black sheep of the family and we barely talk to him”
–Catch someone red-handed: pillar a alguien con las manos en la masa.
“The police caugh the thiefs red-handed at the apartment”
–Get the green light: tener luz verde para hacer algo o un proyecto.
“We are waiting for the green light to start the project”
–Once in a blue moon: algo que se hace raramente.
“I go skiing once in a blue moon”
-In black and White: algo por escrito
“Please send us all of this in black and White”
–Roll out the red carpet: extender la alfombra roja, es decir dar la bienvenida de forma amistosa y amable.
“My parents always roll out the red carpet for my boyfriend”
-A White lie: una mentira piadosa o mentirijilla.
“I told my sister a white lie because I didn’t want to go out yesterday”
–Out of the blue: de repente, de la nada.
“He called me out of the blue…I hadn’t heard from him in years!”
–Red tape: papeleo o burocracia que hay que pasar para terminar un trámite.
“I hate this city, there’s so much red tape!”
–A grey area: una situación donde no está claro o definido.
“Concerning this rule, there’s a grey área”
