Burn out: estar quemado, agotado.Se utiliza cuando una situación o un trabajo nos provoca un gran estrés durante mucho tiempo. 

 

“By the age of 24 she was completely burned out and retired from the sport”

 

Back up. Tiene dos significados: hacer una copia de seguridad de tus archivos o apoyar a alguien.

 

“Remember to back up all your files before we change our laptops”

 

Write up: escribir notas de manera completa, hacer una crítica o reseña. 

 

“Please write up your notes from the meeting”

 

Work on-: trabajar en algo. 

 

“I was working on the project when my boss arrived”

 

Carry out: llevar a cabo.

 

“A survey was carried out then”

 

Close down: cerrar una empresa de manera permanente, normalmente por que ha quebrado.

 

“The factory will close down at the end of June”

 

-Fill in for: sustituir o hacer el puesto de alguien de manera provisional. 

 

“I had to fill in for Sophie who was sick that day”

 

-Get ahead: adelantarse, sacar ventaja. 

 

“In order to get ahead in business you need to be assertive”

 

Hand over: entregar.

 

“Please can you had me the report over?”

 

Lay off: despedir. Otras formas incluyen: fire o dismiss.

 

“He had to lay off many employees after the crisis”

 

Put off: posponer. También puedes usar “adjourn

 

“We have to put off the meeting because our boss is on a trip”

 

Take on: tomar o hacerse cargo, normalmente usada con responsibility.

 

“Taking on all this responsibilities was your first mistake”

 

Run by: dar el visto bueno o tu aprobación a algo.

 

“I have to run this by our head of department first before I give you an answer”

 

Step down: renunciar o dimitir, normalmente un puesto un poco más alto.

 

“The CEO had to step down after the rumors of his embezzlement”
