Ballot. Sustantivo o verbo. Votar o voto
The officers of the club are elected by ballot.
Bill: un cambio en una ley que aún no se ha hecho legal antes de convertirse oficialmente en una ley. Se traduce como propuesta de ley o proposición de ley.
The Bill was approved by Congress and is going before the President
Coalition. Cuando partidos diferentes están de acuerdo en algo por alguna razón.
A coalition formed to promote the proposed law
To Elect: elegir por votación.
Voters in the country have elected their first female president.
Election: el proceso de elegir un nuevo gobierno o líder.
The election will take place on June 10th.
Election Campaign: la campaña de elección para hacer que un partido político gane poder, también se le conoce como Race (o carrera)
The election campaign run by the school board candidate was negative and sleazy.
Law: ley.
It is against the law to steal.
The Opposition: La oposición es el grupo político que no tiene el poder pero quieren tenerlo.
The opposition has come up with an alternative proposal.
Politics: política. Se define en general pero hay que tener cuidado por que cuando nos referimos a uno en particular es un politician.
Domestic politics is quite different from international politics
I don’t like that politician at all.
Political Party: grupo político.
The Conservative Party is the oldest political party in the United Kingdom.
Prime Minister / President: en Gran Bretaña y Australia se llama así a su primer ministro (PM) , mientras que en Estados Unidos se le llama President (o POTUS)
Italy’s prime minister has resigned after losing a confidence vote in the senate. In parliamentary systems the prime minister heads the government but is not the head of state.
To Run. Como se mencionaba anteriormente, intentar conseguir ser el presidente se llama “the race” o carrera por lo tanto los políticos “run the race” que se traduciría por presentarse como candidato.
He had run for office twice before he managed to become president.
Turn-Out: la cantidad de gente que vota o que va a votar en unas elecciones. Es la participación electoral.
The electoral turnout was only 42%
To Vote: verbo parecido a Ballot. Votar en secreto.
